Bryan Burchfield Sports Correspondent The Wildcats didn't waste any time putting points on the board Friday
night at home. After the Sweetwater defense forced Grace
Baptist into a bad punt on their opening drive, the Wildcats started their opening series at the
Grace Baptist 35 yard line. On their first play from scrimmage quarterback Andrew Barr hooked up
with Nick Wicker in the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown strike. The extra point try was blocked.
Later in the first quarter Sweetwater got possession of the football at their own 18-yard line.
The offense marched the ball 82 yards, and Barr and Wicker
hooked up again, this time for a 36 yard touchdown strike. The Wildcats added a two point conversion making the score 14-0. Sweetwater added another
touchdown with 1:20 to go in the first quarter on a 76 yard drive capped off by a 1-yard Jordan
McGaughey touchdown run. The Wildcats led 21-0 after
the first quarter. Grace Baptist got on the board at 8:07 to go in the second quarter on a 34 yard
touchdown pass from Josh Smith to Will Slack. PAT was missed. Sweetwater responded with an 8 play 64-yard drive with yet another Andrew Barr to Nick Wicker
touchdown connection for 13 yards. Grace Baptist however, came right back with a touchdown drive
of their own as quarterback Josh Smith scored on an 11-yard run with 1:14 to go in the first half.
The Golden Eagles added a two point conversion to make the score 28-14. The Wildcats would not be content to just take it to the locker room.
They moved the ball down the field in just 4 plays in 36 seconds and scored on a 9 yard Jordan
McGaughey touchdown run. Sweetwater led at the half 35-14.
After the break Sweetwater took the opening possession of the
second half and drove the ball 61 yards and scored on an Andrew Barr 1 yard quarterback
sneak. After being backed up to their own 1 yard line by a
Sweetwater punt, Grace Baptist drove the football 99 yards and scored on a Will Slack 21 yard
touchdown run with 11:50 left in the game. Sweetwater answered yet
again with a final score of the game when Jordan McGaughey scored on a 21-yard touchdown run at
9:10 to go in the game. It was an offensive explosion for the wildcats in route to a 49-20 win
over Grace Baptist as they improve their record to 3-0. Leaders for the Wildcats were Nick Wicker who had 13 receptions for 248 yards and 3
touchdowns, Andrew Barr who was 17 for 19 through the air for 284 yards, 3 touchdowns, and one
rushing touchdown, and Jordan McGaughey who had 18 rushes, 159 yards, and 3
touchdowns.
