Rafter Friends Church in the Rafter Community will host a special event at 10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, with Cowboy Sunday. There will be singing with a speaker from Colorado, Evangelist, Randy Dodge, former bull rider. A chuckwagon lunch will be shared in the fellowship hall after services. Pastor Richard Lane invites everyone to attend.

Does your home need a smoke detector or two?  The Ball Play Fire Department in cooperation with the Ball Play Ruritan Club is looking for you!  Fire Chief John Bearlepp will install new or replace old detectors if you will call him at 295-2237.  Interested parties will need to provide their name, address, phone number and be residents of the Ball Play fire district.  Smoke detectors save lives and the fire department wants everyone who needs them to have them.  Additionally, the men will inspect your old detectors and clean dryer vents in an effort to reduce the risk of fire.

Friends of the Tellico Plains Library will have a huge book sale Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9 am.-3 p.m. at  the Tellico Plains Community Center.  Many are 2012 releases, as well as hundreds of books (adult and children) and magazines with some books on tape.  Start your Christmas shopping early, books or a friendship bracelet  are a great gift.

Descendants of John Richard Young and Susie Phillips Young will have a family reunion on Sept. 9 at noon.  It will be held at the Tellico Plains Community Center.  Please bring a covered dish to share, drinks, and any memorabilia you may have.
