The candidate qualifying deadline for the Madisonville city election in November came and passed Thursday.

Incumbent City Recorder Ted Cagle will face opposition for his seat from businessman Bryan Hall.

Three city alderman incumbents, Bill Spradlin, Glenn Moser and Bobby Bruner, must contend with two challengers who have run or held city office before, Augustus "Gus" Davis and Marvin "Booger" Hunt.

Madisonville voters will also have to decide whether not to allow liquor by the drink in the city limits.

In recent elections, Madisonville and Sweetwater voters have passed alcohol referendums in attempts to get more revenue.

Madisonville and Sweetwater both have passed laws allowing package liquor stores.

In 2009, Sweetwater voters passed a referendum allowing restaurants to sell liquor by the drink.

Both Sweetwater and Madisonville have seen liquor stores open in the past year, but so far, there has been no rush of restaurants selling liquor by the drink in Sweetwater.

The Madisonville election is the same day as the presidential, U.S. Congress and Senate races along with the Tennessee House contests.

Early voting for the Nov. 6 election runs Oct. 17 to Nov. 1.
