The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
is looking into the death of a Florida inmate who just happened to be
in Monroe County when he died Wednesday.
According to TBI spokesperson Kristin
Helm, the prisoner, who has not been identified, was being taken from
Florida to Ohio when the van stopped at the Monroe County Jail and he
was discovered to have died.
Madisonville Police Chief Gregg Breeden
said his department briefly looked into the case, but the TBI took
over when it became apparent the case would cross state lines.
Breeden said he didn't think local
agencies would have any more involvement with the case.
The TBI said an autopsy would be done
to determine the cause of death. After the investigation, the case
will be turned over to the district attorney for review.
