MADISONVILLE-A pair of former Monroe
County Sheriff's deputies have been indicted on charges they
assaulted a prisoner in their care last January.
Former Capt. John Wilburn and former
Jailer Thomas Goodman were indicted on charges of assault and
official oppression stemming from an incident in which they allegedly
abused a prisoner handcuffed to a chair.
The two resigned from their jobs and it
looked like there wouldn't be any charges filed, but District
Attorney General Steve Bebb had the assault charges filed at the
beginning of February.
The oppression charges were added after
the case was heard by the grand jury. See full story in the Wednesday, June 27, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
