At the height of the job market free
fall three years ago, Monroe County's unemployment rate topped 19
percent, one of the highest jobless rates among Tennessee's 95
counties.
The unemployment rate today is still
high, however it has been cut nearly in half, coming in at 10.5
percent on the latest unemployment report issued this past week by
the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
That's good news for the local economy,
according to Monroe County Director of Economic Development Shan
