MADISONVILLE-The Monroe County Board of Education voted to extend Director of Schools Mike Lowry's contract on Thursday night after high remarks on his annual performance review.

Of the six categories in the performance review, Lowry averaged more than 3.8 overall on the 4-point scale.

"He ran pretty average on all the items," said Chairman Larry Stein, noting that Lowry still had three years left on the current contract.

Lowry was evaluated on the following categories: Board relationships (average score of 3.9), community relationships (average score of 3.9), staff and personal relationships (average score of 3.77), facilities and finance (average score of 4), vision (average score of 3.83) and student achievement (average score of 3.92).

The scores for Lowry's evaluation were actually higher than his last performance evaluation, completed in October 2011.
