MADISONVILLE-Monroe County Senior
Citizens acquitted themselves well during the 2012 Southeast
Tennessee Senior Olympic Games in April and medals galore were
brought home by the nearly 30 contestants.
The games were held in various places,
including the Athens Senior Center, Walker Valley High School and
Tennessee Wesleyan College.
Participant Joan Burden said she's
grateful the games are held each year. "If you don't use it, you
lose it," she said. "The baby boomers are redefining old age. You
have to live 100 years to be 50."
Dorothy Upton could have become a star
thanks to the games, but she eventually turned down an offer to do a
Blue Cross Blue Shield commercial.
"They were at the games," Upton
said, "and wanted to know if I'd be interested. But it would've
meant a trip to Nashville and when I found out I'd just be
auditioning with 41 other people, I backed out."
