A Monroe County man was killed in
an accident early this morning involving a van and a motorcycle.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), Troy D. Bowers, 44, of Madisonville, was
traveling north bound on Niles Ferry Road in Vonore in his Dodge Caravan around 6:08 a.m. this
morning, traveling at a rate of 55 mph, when he crossed the center line into the south bound lane.
James Felker, 40, of Vonore, was riding his Harley Davidson in
the south bound lane when Bowers crossed the center line, according to THP trooper Brian Martin.
Felker applied the brakes to avoid hitting Bowers, but was unable to stop quickly
The Caravan struck the motorcycle head on, killing
Felker. Bowers was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was not injured in the

factors in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
