Douglas Astor Galyon

Douglas Astor Galyon of Philadelphia, passed away on Jan.
28, 2013 at Sweetwater Hospital after a brief illness. He was a member of First Baptist Church
in Philadelphia where he served as a deacon. Douglas loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and became a
Christian at age 9. Doug took an
active interest in cars at an early age, building his first car at 17 out of
used parts, starting with an old car stored in their family barn. He was parts manager at a local Chevrolet
dealerships for 41 years, retiring from Jack Nelson Buick, in Lenoir City, in
2002. Doug was a kind and gentle
Gentleman and a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was an active member of Sweetwater
Valley Lodge #280 IOOF and Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge in Tennessee, a
Family Fraternity.
He was 72.
Survivors include: wife-Sara Rausin Galyon of Philadelphia;
Brother-Frederick Albert and wife, Vivian Galyon of
Sweetwater;
Several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by: parents, Samuel Noah and Ola Mae
Buckner Galyon; brothers, William Everett and Kenneth Samuel Galyon.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 31, at
First Baptist Church Philadelphia, from 5-7 p.m. with the funeral service to
follow with Rev. Brian Courtney officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m., Friday at the
West View Cemetery in Sweetwater for a 10 a.m. interment. In lieu of flowers memorials may be
made to the First Baptist Church Philadelphia Building Fund or to Doug’s Grand
Master project, Visual Research, in care of Dean Ward chairman, 400 Lattie
Reese Rd. Hartsville, TN 37074.
