Dovie Almira Briley Rushing of
Sweetwater, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 19. She died peacefully at home. She
was born on Aug. 10, 1915 in Nixon, Tenn. She was the only daughter of Joseph and Minerva Briley.
Mrs. Rushing was a founding member of the Sweetwater First Assembly of God and was a faithful and active
member until her ill health. She spent many years studying her Bible, gardening, canning and
sewing. She was especially known for her homemade rolls, ice tea and desserts.
She was 97.
Preceded in death by: her parents; seven
older brothers; by her oldest daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Bill Montague; also her
daughter-in-law, Francis Christine Roberts Rushing.
Survivors include:
three children-Thamer Rushing and daughter-in-law, Jan of Mooresville, Mo.; Gail Hammonds and
son-in-law, Don of Decatur; Terry Rushing of Sweetwater;
Eight
grandchildren and spouses-Trena Johnson and Ric of Cleveland; Jolene Jenkins and Mike of Decatur;
Jacob Montague and Wendy of Hairin, Ga.; Jason Montague and Arimenta of LaDonna, Ga; Daryle
Cordell of Omaha, Neb.; Janet Kay and Brad Smart of Tupelo, Miss.; Tammy McAvoy and Michael of
Chattanooga; and Tim Rushing of Baltimore;
Mrs. Rushing had 14
great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She will be greatly missed by her family and
friends.
The family will receive friends at First Assembly of God in
Sweetwater on Wednesday November 21, 2012 from 4-6 p.m. The funeral will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev.
Larry Orr, Rev. Jerry Downs, and Dr. Andrew Templeton officiating. Final resting place will be in
Savannah, Tenn. at Wesley Chapel Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 23. Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, in
charge of arrangements.
